9:05 a.m. Held a Board of Equalization meeting. <br /> 9:12 a.m. Returned to the regular meeting. <br /> PUBLIC PARTICIPATION Chairman Arnold called for public participation and no one <br /> responded. <br /> 15. FROM CITIZENS CONCERNED WITH POTENTIAL ADULT ENTERTAINMENT <br /> ESTABLISHMENT— Keith Baumfalk, St Paul Nebraska submitted a petition to stop Shane <br /> Harrington from opening a strip club. He stated that a group of men from Grand Island and the <br /> surrounding communities signed the petition. He read the statement from the petition. <br /> Shay McGowan thanked the board for allowing them to come. He noted that the meeting was <br /> opened with a prayer. This is a community led by God and it is growing and they want to see it <br /> continue on a positive note they do not want to see this business coming into the community. <br /> Richardson thanked them for coming forward and commended them on their work they are still <br /> getting signatures. <br /> Lancaster thanked them for coming and appreciates their stand on basic Christian values. <br /> Quandt thanked them for their work and noted that there was a location west of town and the <br /> Lori Roger with the State Patrol worked on that issue. These issues are a law enforcement <br /> nightmare. <br /> Arnold stated he is a preachers son and on the other side he is a 33 year veteran of the police <br /> department and he cannot think of anything that would be positive regarding an operation like <br /> this. It is a negative economic impact to the community. <br /> Lanfear thanked them for the Christian values and appreciated that they used this voice. <br /> COUNTY ATTORNEY•- No items <br /> 5. DISCUSS AND APPROVE RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING HALL COUNTY TOURISM WEEK <br /> Brad Mellema, Tricia Beem, Liz Gerberding, Paul Nielson, and Doug Stange were present. <br /> Pam Lancaster is the liaison to the CVB. They presented information to the board members <br /> and reviewed the report. The hotel revenues were up 15% this year and the CVB revenues and <br /> budget for 2013 2014 were $416,000.00. The total lodging tax is 6% 2% for the visitor promotion <br /> fund, 2% visitor improvement fund and 2% Heartland Events Center marketing fund. <br /> Purdy asked how the 6% compares to surrounding communities and Brad stated they are on <br /> level ground with surround counties. <br /> Mr. Mellema noted the following 5 marketing areas: <br /> • Cranes, wildlife nature <br /> • Agriculture <br /> • Meetings and group tours <br /> • Sports events <br /> • Us marketing to ourselves <br /> 2 <br />
