18a.DISCUSSION & POSSIBLE ACTION ON CLOSING PINE STREET FIRST TO COURT <br /> STREET Mr. Quandt stated he put 18, 19 and 20 on the agenda and they are all related. He <br /> would like to see the process started regarding Pine Street. <br /> Quandt made a motion and Schuppan seconded to send a letter the City of Grand Island <br /> requesting them to close Pine Street. <br /> Arnold questioned if there would need to be a date if there is a public hearing and would it have <br /> to be closed before the work started. <br /> McFarland stated he had met with the city and the consensus was that they would recommend <br /> closing Pine Street. In the past there was an issue with the old Pine Street,Fire station but that <br /> is no longer there. He felt they would recommend doing so. There needs to be a plan. The <br /> board ask Mr. Zitterkopf what he thought about sending the letter and he stated that the city <br /> may just ask for an existing need to do so. <br /> McFarland stated that the city has wanted to put in a traffic light at First and Sycamore and the <br /> traffic count has not indicated the need so it could change with the closing of Pine Street. <br /> Arnold stated that he doesn't think it would be an issue, just need to start the process by <br /> sending the letter. <br /> Mr. Zitterkopf stated that the worst that could happen is that they may ask for a plan it won't hurt <br /> to send a letter. <br /> The vote on the motion was taken Purdy, Quandt, Schuppan and Ziola all voted yes and Arnold, <br /> Lancaster and McFarland voted no. Motion carried. <br /> 19.DISCUSSION &ACTION ON SIGNAL LIGHT ON THE CORNER OF FIRST & SYCAMORE <br /> STREETS - Quandt stated when the traffic is diverted to Sycamore he wants to move forward <br /> with the request for a stop light. <br /> Quandt made a motion and Ziola seconded to send a letter to the city requesting a stop light at <br /> First and Sycamore streets. Arnold, Lancaster, McFarland, Purdy, Quandt, Schuppan and Ziola <br /> all voted yes and none voted no. Motion carried. <br /> 20. LETTER REGARDING FEDERAL BUILDING -Quandt stated that he would like to send a <br /> letter regarding the federal building. <br /> Quandt made a motion and Lancaster seconded to send a letter to the federal government <br /> informing them of our interest in acquiring the federal building. Arnold, Lancaster, McFarland, <br /> Purdy, Quandt, Schuppan and Ziola all voted yes and none voted no. Motion carried. <br /> 18 A) COURTHOUSE RENOVATIONS & POSSIBLE ACTION —Quandt stated that originally <br /> he felt that the B1 proposal would work but has changed his mind with the discussion on the <br /> annex building. He is suggesting conservative courthouse option #1 that would make an <br /> addition to the annex and connect the courthouse to the annex and he would like to move <br /> forward with a plan doing so. The old jail would still be torn down. But they may be able to save <br /> dollars by using the existing space. <br /> Arnold stated he has always wanted to use the space in the courthouse annex that was not <br /> 9 <br />
