<br />~~N~ <br /> <br />DAN HOSTLER - RESPONSE TO PETITION TO CLOSE ROAD: Public Works <br />Director Dan Hostler submitted a letter concerning the request to <br />close a portion of Shady Bend Road and recommended that the Hall <br />County Board of Supervisors not close this portion of the road. <br />This road is the only entrance to a privately owned cabin on the <br />river. The road is a section line that had never been opened. <br />The County does not maintain the road but the owner of the cabin <br />uses and maintains the road. Lancaster made a motion and Quandt <br />seconded to hold a public hearing on June 23, 1998, at 10:00 a.m. <br />to consider the petition. Abernethy, Lancaster, Landis, Long, <br />Quandt and Stelk all voted yes and none voted no, with Hartman <br />absent. Motion carried. <br /> <br />RESCHEDULE PUBLIC HEARING FOR RAILROAD CLOSING: The personnel <br />from the railroad will be unable to attend this on the originally <br />proposed date of June 1. Abernethy made a motion and Long <br />seconded to reschedule the public hearing to close and reroute <br />certain railroad crossing for June 9, 1998, at 6:30 p.m. <br />Abernethy, Lancaster, Landis, Long, Quandt and Stelk all voted <br />yes and none voted no, with Hartman absent. Motion carried. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION ON ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: Gary Quandt requested that <br />this be placed on the agenda. He stated that over the last 6 <br />months with the prison issue the community expressed the desire <br />for more economic development. He stated he would like to see <br />the City, County, Economic Development and the Hall County <br />Airport Authority work on this. He suggested incentive packages <br />and the installation of utilities for areas. Andy Baird with the <br />Economic Development Corporation informed the board that there <br />have been several new businesses that have recently opened. Long <br />stated that he feels there is more open communication between the <br />City, County, Economic Development Corporation and others that <br />are interested in development. Landis stated that there needs to <br />be more dollars behind economic development. Baird stated that <br />business need more employees. Stelk stressed the need for bigger <br />business that are not ag-related. Lancaster stressed the <br />importance of supporting the Economic Development Corporation. <br />Baird stated that the low unemployment rate and cultural changes <br />also have some impact on development. <br /> <br />REQUEST TO BUY COPIER FROM COUNTY TREASURER DORIS MASON: County <br />Treasurer Doris Mason provided the board with copies of 3 <br />proposals for the purchase of a new copier for her office. Her <br />copier needs up-graded and the new machine could have a fax board <br />added later. Lancaster made a motion and Abernethy seconded to <br />authorize the County Treasurer to purchase the copier from Modern <br />Methods for $3,810.00. Abernethy, Lancaster, Landis, Long, Quandt <br />and Stelk all voted yes and none voted no, with Hartman absent. <br />Motion carried. <br />
