DISCUSSION ON TAX EQUALIZATION AND REVIEW COMMISSION MEETING:
Gary Quandt attended the TERC meeting and expressed his concern
on the homes that are valued over $200,000.00. County Assessor
Jan Pelland explained that there were only 17 sales on homes at
this value and they are only at 88%. She stated that these homes
are built at the owners' specifications and there may be 50 homes
in this category. If the Board of Equalization lowers a home it
affects the market for 3 years. With a mass appraisal they try
to do the best they can/then address the exceptions. Landis
stated her concerns on the ag-Iand and how TERC ordered Hall
County to raise their value. Pelland stated that the sale of the
small tracts of ag-Iand at a high cost cause the valuation to go
up. Pelland said they use a standard manual to help determine
the value of new homes and they must be equally assessed. Quandt
stated that when the valuation goes up the taxes still go up even
if the mill levy is the same. The board requested additional
information on the sale of properties at $250,000.00 to
$500,000.00.

Meeting adjourned at 12:00 p.m. The next meeting will be May 26
at 9:00 a.m.
