Arnold stated that the sale of the property on the competitive bidding process was discussed
and there are some local places that could be used to dispose of the property. The police
department uses this process to dispose of some of the vehicles they use the Internet to
advertise the property and include a picture and a description. Mr. Sherlock stated that there is
also Big Iron .com that can be used but there is always a risk because it goes to the highest
bidder and it may not be the best bid. He has also considered using it as a trade in for another
loader.
Mr. Humphrey stated that with the small items they will use the local auction houses and they
may look into the police department auction. Lancaster stated that the resolution authorized the
director to sell the property.
The vote on the motion was taken. Arnold, Lancaster, McFarland, Purdy, Quandt, Schuppan
and Ziola all voted yes and none voted no. Motion carried.
E. DISCUSS PURCHASE OF PICKUPS FOR THE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT — Mr. Sherlock
stated that the committee discussed the purchase of a pickup. He is considering trading in the
pickup that he drives; it is a 2006 and only has 45,000 miles. He has questions on the purchse
of a vehicle from a state bid and isn't sure if he could use his pickup as a trade in or would he
have to declare it as surplus and then take sealed bids to sell it. He stated that he does not
have the dollars in his budget this fiscal year to trade the pickup. Lancaster questioned if he
looked at just trading the vehicle in and not using the state bid but Mr. Sherlock stated that the
pickup priced at $52,000.00 on a state bid would be $37,000.00 with the government discount.
He stated that he could drive the pickup longer. Schuppan stated that they discussed this at
length but they also need to look at what is legal.
Lancaster asked if there was a committee recommendation and Mr. Schuppan said they would
like to research it more. Mr. Sherlock stated that Sheriff Watson may be interested in his
pickup.
9:30 a.m. Bid Opening for gravel
The following bids were received:
STOCKPILES
BIDDER PROJECT #1 PROJECT #2 PROJECT #3 A B C
LILLEY SAND & GRAVEL NO BID NO BID NO BID 8.94 NA NA
BID BOND ENCLOSED PIT PRICE $6.25
CENTRAL SAND NO BID NO BID NO BID NA NA NA
BID BOND ENCLOSED PIT PRICE $9.60
CONSOLIDATED NOBID 544,388.00 $36,003.00 $12.33 $10.93 $9.52
BID BOND ENCLOSED PIT PRICE NO BID
HOOKER BORTHERS $40,841.50 NO BID 434,328.00 $12.03 $11.58 $10.46
BID BOND ENCLOSED PIT PRICE $6.25 T $8.44
MID-NE AGGREGATE NO BID $36,652.50 $29,865.00 $11.55 $9.09 $10.05
BID BOND ENCLOSED PIT PRICE $6.50 YD
Ziola made a motion and Purdy seconded to accept the bids and refer the bids to the public
works department.
