HALL COUNTY BOARD OF CORRECTIONS MEETING SEPTEMBER 14, 2010 ROLL CALL VOTE — Wagoner made a motion and Quandt seconded to go into a Board of Corrections meeting. Present on roll call were Scott Arnold, Bud Jeffries, Pamela Lancaster, Daniel Purdy, Robert Rye, Gary Quandt and Daniel Wagoner. Also present was Fred Ruiz Corrections Director, County Attorney Jack Zitterkopf and Board Assistant Stacey Ruzicka. CALL TO ORDER - The meeting was called to order by Chairman Bud Jeffries. NOTICE OF OPEN MEETING LAW - Chairman Jeffries read the notice of the open meeting law. • CORRECTION DIRECTOR'S REPORT - Corrections Director Fred Ruiz stated that there is not a lot going on but they did hit 273 inmates. The staff is handling them well and without this new facility they would have been in trouble. They currently have 20 inmates in unit 3 which is the naughty boy section and it serves the facility well and is used quite regularly. He reported that there is a broken line and they will have to repair but the maintenance staff will be able to do this normally it would be a $5,000.00 job. They are also flushing out the cooling system lines because there is sediment in the lines and they are also replacing the fluids in the system the contractor has stood behinds this system. Mr. Ruiz asked the corrections committee if they would consider meeting every other month with the E Mail there is communication between the committee members. There is not much going on but that would be a committee decision. Arnold stated that this would be appropriate and if necessary they can call a meeting. Mr. Ruiz stated that they can finish out this year and meet in November and then meet in January so it would be the odd number months. Arnold stated that there were concerns that the issue with the heating and cooling system was sabotage and this may have occurred during the construction. Jeffries stated that this is not uncommon and they are not certain but this is what may have happened. Mr. Ruiz stated that historically the corrections department has been an area with a high turn over rate. When they went to the new facility there was some turn over but over the last few months it has dropped off and the staff is getting accustomed to the process. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION — Chairman Jeffries called for public participation and no one responded. MINUTES — Rye made a motion and Lancaster seconded to approve the minutes of the September 14, 2010 meeting. Arnold, Jeffries, Lancaster, Purdy, Quandt, Rye and Wagoner all voted yes and none voted no. Motion carried.
