HALL COUNTY BOARD OF CORRECTIONS MEETING JULY 8, 2008 <br /> The Hall County Board of Corrections met from general session and by published call. <br /> 10:15 a.m. Lancaster made the motion and Eriksen seconded to go into the Board of <br /> Corrections. Arnold, Eriksen, Humiston, Jeffries, Lancaster, Rye and Wagoner, all voted <br /> yes and none voted no. Motion carried. <br /> ROLL CALL - Members present were Scott Arnold, Jim Eriksen, Bob Humiston, Bud <br /> Jeffries, Pamela Lancaster, Bob Rye, and Daniel Wagoner. Also present was <br /> Corrections Director Fred Ruiz. <br /> MINUTES OF MEETING — Rye made a motion and Lancaster seconded to place on file <br /> the minutes of the May 13, 2008 meeting. Arnold, Eriksen, Humiston, Jeffries, <br /> Lancaster, Rye and Wagoner, all voted yes and none voted no. Motion carried. <br /> NOTICE OF OPEN MEETING LAW -- Chairman Jeffries read the notice of the open <br /> meeting law. <br /> PUBLIC PARTICIPATION — Chairman Jeffries called for public participation and no one <br /> responded. <br /> CORRECTIONS DIRECTORS REPORT -- Corrections Director Fred Ruiz stated <br /> That there is a problem with the elevator in the old jail, in fact an inmate and a <br /> corrections officer were stuck in the elevator for an hour. They do not want to have to <br /> spend money on the old facility but this may need to be repaired. They are hoping to <br /> move in 2 or 3 weeks. At this time the numbers of inmates are below average but they <br /> anticipate that it will go up again. They are working on their budget and they had to use <br /> some estimates on the utilities. <br /> He reported that the State Department of Corrections offered to have a group of their <br /> staff walk through the new facility. They sent 20 officers and one engineer and this was <br /> the most beneficial training that they could have received. The officers shared ideas <br /> and all in all the entire department felt good about what they are doing. The new facility <br /> is well designed and the new technology is great. Overall it was a very productive day <br /> and the staff felt good about it. <br /> The hope to move soon but there still a coupe of communications issues that need to be <br /> repaired. The product is to be shipped July 17 and they hope it will be repaired. He <br /> reported that the department had requested to get a supply of books and 500 new books <br /> were donated to the new facility. He has hired two part-time receptionists and they <br /> were short 2 officers and they have also been hired. They are working on 2 contracts <br /> with other counties and the contracts are ready to be signed. <br /> Lancaster thanked Mr. Ruiz for all of his work this last year and stated she appreciated <br /> that job that he has done. <br /> Wagoner questioned if inmates that are held for other counties if and when they are <br /> released if they would be released in Hall County.
