HALL COUNTY BOARD OF CORRECTIONS MEETING JULY 8, 2008 The Hall County Board of Corrections met from general session and by published call. 10:15 a.m. Lancaster made the motion and Eriksen seconded to go into the Board of Corrections. Arnold, Eriksen, Humiston, Jeffries, Lancaster, Rye and Wagoner, all voted yes and none voted no. Motion carried. ROLL CALL - Members present were Scott Arnold, Jim Eriksen, Bob Humiston, Bud Jeffries, Pamela Lancaster, Bob Rye, and Daniel Wagoner. Also present was Corrections Director Fred Ruiz. MINUTES OF MEETING — Rye made a motion and Lancaster seconded to place on file the minutes of the May 13, 2008 meeting. Arnold, Eriksen, Humiston, Jeffries, Lancaster, Rye and Wagoner, all voted yes and none voted no. Motion carried. NOTICE OF OPEN MEETING LAW -- Chairman Jeffries read the notice of the open meeting law. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION — Chairman Jeffries called for public participation and no one responded. CORRECTIONS DIRECTORS REPORT -- Corrections Director Fred Ruiz stated That there is a problem with the elevator in the old jail, in fact an inmate and a corrections officer were stuck in the elevator for an hour. They do not want to have to spend money on the old facility but this may need to be repaired. They are hoping to move in 2 or 3 weeks. At this time the numbers of inmates are below average but they anticipate that it will go up again. They are working on their budget and they had to use some estimates on the utilities. He reported that the State Department of Corrections offered to have a group of their staff walk through the new facility. They sent 20 officers and one engineer and this was the most beneficial training that they could have received. The officers shared ideas and all in all the entire department felt good about what they are doing. The new facility is well designed and the new technology is great. Overall it was a very productive day and the staff felt good about it. The hope to move soon but there still a coupe of communications issues that need to be repaired. The product is to be shipped July 17 and they hope it will be repaired. He reported that the department had requested to get a supply of books and 500 new books were donated to the new facility. He has hired two part-time receptionists and they were short 2 officers and they have also been hired. They are working on 2 contracts with other counties and the contracts are ready to be signed. Lancaster thanked Mr. Ruiz for all of his work this last year and stated she appreciated that job that he has done. Wagoner questioned if inmates that are held for other counties if and when they are released if they would be released in Hall County. Mr. Ruiz stated that they would be returned to the original county. I' 1 1 i I
