HALL COUNTY BOARD OF CORRECTION MEETI NG MARCH 4, 2008 <br /> The Hall County Board of Corrections met from general session and by published call. <br /> 10:00 a.m. Eriksen made the motion and Lancaster seconded to go into the Board of <br /> Corrections. Arnold, Eriksen, Humiston, Jeffries, Lancaster, Rye and Wagoner, all voted <br /> yes and none voted no. Motion carried. <br /> ROLL CALL - Members present were Scott Arnold, Jim Eriksen, Bob Humiston, Bud <br /> Jeffries, Pamela Lancaster, Bob Rye, and Daniel Wagoner. Also present was <br /> Corrections Director Fred Ruiz. <br /> OPEN MEETING LAW — Chairman Jeffries read the notice of the open meeting law. <br /> MINUTES OF MEETING — Lancaster made a motion and Humiston seconded to place <br /> on file the minutes of the January 4, 2008 meeting. Arnold, Eriksen, Humiston, Jeffries, <br /> Lancaster, Rye and Wagoner, all voted yes and none voted no. Motion carried. <br /> PUBLIC PARTICIPATION -- Chairman Jeffries called for public participation and no one <br /> responded. <br /> CORRECTIONS DIRECTORS REPORT — Corrections Director Fred Ruiz stated that <br /> they have hired 14 new officers and in the process of training and then they will hire 9 <br /> more officers. The possession date is still March 28. There aren't many changes on the <br /> outside but there is a lot of work on the inside. There are also large orders for <br /> computers and other equipment that are being processed. They are looking at the <br /> middle of April to start on the fumishing. <br /> He also reported that the discussion with the US Marshall Service and ICE are still on <br /> going and they have adjusted the daily rates that will be charged. <br /> The remodeling at the current building is progressing and most of the demolition has <br /> been completed. The most pressing issue is the installation of the video equipment <br /> because it is difficult to get into the court rooms because of the case load so they will ' <br /> have to do the installation on nights and weekends. <br /> He reported that they have been retaining the new employees and that is a plus. <br /> Some of the sergeants have been taking training out of state and he thanked Deb Rea <br /> and Gayle Woods for covering when they were gone. Once the training in the new <br /> facility starts it will be intense. <br /> They did have a flu outbreak and they purchased some tama flue for the employees and <br /> inmates but that is under control. He stated that he would like to have the steering <br /> committee meet at the new site. <br /> He stated that he would like to offer tours of the new facility to any one that is interested. <br /> Wagoner questioned the purchase of a pickup and Mr. Ruiz stated that it was purchased <br /> off of the state bid.
