Arnold, Eriksen, Hartman, Humiston, Jeffries, Lancaster and Rye all voted yes
and none voted no. Motion carried.
Members present were Scott Amold, Jim Eriksen, Dick Hartman, Bob Humiston, Bud
Jeffries, Pamela Lancaster and Bob Rye. Also present were Corrections Director Fred
Ruiz and Administrative Assistant Holly Plejdrup. .
CORRECTIONS DIRECTORS REPORT- Corrections Director Fred Ruiz was present
and stated that he is approaching 6 months with the County. He stated he has been
extremely busy and has enjoyed the challenges. His biggest concern is the union
contract and he hopes that will be settled soon. He stated that he has a good work force
but they need better policy and procedures and they are working on those issues now.
He noted that county govemment is different, in some ways slower and in other ways
faster. He welcomed any comments from the board.
Lancaster stated that she was pleased that he accepted the interim position and
appreciates that he decided to stay. There is a lot of work to be done and a lot of
changes that will be to the benefit of Hall County. We have a good work force but need
guidance.
Chairman Eriksen stated that he appreciates his positive attitude with all of the changes
that are happening.
Mr. Ruiz stated that he has submitted bills to the State for first quarter housing but that
payment may not be received until December.
He noted that the population is at 125 to 130. He also noted that they are seeing more
individuals with mental health issues and that population will probably get larger before it
gets better, so there is a rise in medical costs. He stated that the total income from
outside agencies is $128,898.40 and everyone except the state has paid.
With the start of the new commissary program they will have items let over that they
cannot use and want to dispose of this inventory. He proposed that these items could
be donated to some organization. Deputy County Attorney Michelle Oldham stated that
this discussion needs to go to the committee and if the items are of no value they can be
called surplus. The committee needs to meet and make a recommendation.
There are some photos of the construction of the new jail facility on the web site and
there is also a newsletter. With help from Doug and Josh, they hope keep the web site
information updated. They are working on the colors of the mortar and bricks and
continue to meet every other week. Lancaster noted that this facility is concrete and
steel and they are using a special method on the metal panels to make it look like
•
concrete, so it is attractive and cost efficient.
