Hookst <br /> Controller <br /> RE: Jail Reimbursement Update <br /> UPDATE ON 2nd QUARTER OF FY 2005 -2006 <br /> The payments for the second quarter were submitted for processing within the Nebraska Information <br /> System in March 2006. Since claims exceeded the available appropriation during the 2nd Quarter of • <br /> FY2006, payment was prorated as required by state law. The rate used for the 2nd quarter was <br /> 55.01351%. Since all of the FY2006 appropriation has been exhausted any claims received for the <br /> 3rd and 4th quarter cannot be processed. Counties are encouraged to submit claims for both the third <br /> and fourth quarter so that the Department of Correctional Services can report this information to the <br /> Nebraska Legislative Appropriation Committee Chair in accordance with LB 1060 passed during the <br /> 2006 Legislative session. <br /> FY2006 -2007 FUNDING <br /> The total appropriation available in FY2007 has been increased to the statutory maximum level of <br /> $3,910,000. This is an increase of $408,595 over FY2006. <br /> REMINDER OF POINTS IN THE LAW RELATED TO JAIL REIMBURSEMENT <br /> 1. Requires claims to be filed with the Department of Correctional Services within 45 days after the <br /> close of each fiscal quarterly period (September 30, December 31, March 31, June 30). Any <br /> claims not meeting statutory deadlines shall be determined ineligible for future filing and shall not <br /> be reimbursed by the state. <br /> 2. Counties may continue to submit their county jail reimbursement claims on either a monthly or <br /> quarterly basis. While payment cannot be made monthly, submitting claims monthly will allow the <br /> Department of Correctional Services to ultimately process payments in a timelier manner after the <br /> quarterly filing deadline. Claims must include the detail claim form along with the certification to <br /> be considered a valid claim. <br /> 3. A county cannot submit more than one claim per month. If a county holds prisoners for another <br /> county they must all be submitted on one monthly claim. <br /> P.O.
